WELCOME TO THE URBAN TREKKER'S SKYLINE HIKERS OF THE CANADIAN ROCKIES PAGES.

UPDATED DECEMBER 1,2005

2005 CAMP WILL BE IN THE PALLISER PASS AREA NEAR LEMAN LAKE and access will be from the Burstall Pass trailhead.

I first joined a Skyline Hikers of the Canadian Rockies week long camp in July 1990 when I went with the club to their Week 2 camp at Molar Pass, Banff National Park . The rest is history. I hope that you enjoy reading through these trip diaries which are all text at the present time.

1. 1990 - Molar Pass - my first camp and the one area that I have since returned too - perhaps the best of all the current locations for hiking , scenery and especially wild flowers galore.
2. 1991 - Bryant Creek - this is the main access route to Mt. Assiniboine Park - attended week one camp and had lot's of late season snow to contend with.
3. 1992 - Tombstone Lake - in the Elbow Sheep area of Kananaskis Country - a new location to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Skyliners - we aren't allow to return to due to a change in land use categories.
4. 1994 - Owl Lakes - a long hike into a camp in the Upper Bryant creek area and near the B.C. border - the site of our year 2000 camp and another area that Parks Canada no longer allows us to visit due to wildlife habitat.
5. 1996 - Molar Pass revisited - liked it so much the first time that I returned for a second visit - great weather and will probably attend again the next time - 2001
6. 1997 - Allenby Pass - a long 23 Km hike into a pass on the B.C./Alberta border- provides views and access to Assiniboine - hot weather for the week. No longer on the Parks Canada authorized list
7. 1998 - Sunset Pass - perhaps the best of the camping areas - wide variety of day hikes for all level of hikers. Probable site of the 2006 camps
8.2001 MOLARPASS2001- my third trip to this great spot in the Rockies.
9. JOHNSTONCREEK2004 had a great week here in the heart of the Rockies visitng areas such as Luellen Lake, Lower Badger Falls - the Badger Pass valley and Step stairs Falls and Zorro Falls on the way to Pulsatilla Pass - check out the Skyliners web site for pictures of the various camps.
10.BARIL CREEK 2005 - AN AREA LOCATED SOUTH OF CANMORE IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF KANANASKIS COUNTRY - area has a number of accessible mountain lookouts and impressive meadows on the way to Fording River Pass and James Lake for cold alpine swims and perhaps even a fish or two.
11. PALLISER PASS 2006

Founded back in 1922 as a tourist service for the Canadian Pacific Railroad and their mountain hotels at Banff and Lake Louise, the Skyliners as we commonly call ourselves have evolved into an independent not for profit outdoor organization that offers a wilderness camping experience in the Canadian Rockies for an affordable price.
Each year the Skyliners operate five one week camps in the Canadian Rockies with a rotating list of locations usually in Banff National Park. Park Canada usually likes at least a 5 to 7 year wait before returning to an area.
Just click on the links above for information on what a week of hiking with the Skyliners is all about.

NOTE: For the most complete idea of just what the entire process of attending camp is all about including the process in Banff read the Molar Pass 1990 trip report.
